Welcome!

Meet the Pastor - John Beehler

Me.jpg

John grew up in LaPorte County in Northwest Indiana and he and his bride Wendy have been married for over 40 years. They have a son and daughter-in-law and have been blessed with their first grandchild. John is a painter, author, and loves bluegrass gospel music. Answering God’s call later in life, John has been joyfully serving Him for 23 years. He was a solo pastor at his first church for 17 1/2 years when God called him to a church in Illinois for a 3 year stint as an Interim Pastor and has quickly acclimated to life in Huntington.

A few of the ways we serve the community of Huntington:

Pet Food Pantry - First Presbyterian operates the Pet Food Pantry out of the church on each Wednesday.  Difficult decisions have to be made every day for those on limited incomes.  The First Presbyterian Church offers pet food to those who qualify for assistance through Love, INC.  For many, their pets are the only family they have and assisting with food for these loved ones provides a sense of peace.

Pathfinders - Being an active part of the community is the vision of both Pathfinder Services, Inc. and The First Presbyterian Church.  Pos'Abilities is the name of the Pathfinder group that meets in the Fellowship Hall of the church Monday through Friday.  While at the church, those with developmental disabilities gain skills needed for employment in our community through education modules, hands-on art projects that are then sold through Humblebuy.org and through volunteering in the community.

Scouting - First Presbyterian is the home of Cub Scout Pack 3607.  With all the negative influences in today's society, Scouting provides boys with a positive peer group who can encourage them in all the right ways. The principles of loving and serving God, of human dignity and the rights of individuals, and of recognizing the obligation of members to develop and use their potential. It is a movement dedicated to bringing out the best in people. Cub Scouting doesn't emphasize winning as an end result, but rather the far more demanding task of doing one's best.
